Hi, I’m Lara.
I was born in the Netherlands to an Alaskan father and a Dutch mother, and moved to France at a young age. After studying 2D animation in Lyon, I later moved to Curaçao, a place that deeply changed me and slowly brought me back to painting, to myself, and to a more open and expressive part of who I am.
In Curaçao, I chose to fully dedicate myself to my artistic practice. What began with portrait commissions gradually expanded into paintings, murals, and eventually into my own gallery and atelier in Willemstad.
ABOUT MY WORK :
My work is centered around emotion, introspection, and the reflection of our inner world.
I work mainly through portraiture, while also moving freely into abstraction. I’m drawn to the space where form softens and something more subtle becomes visible, a feeling, a memory, an inner state.
Many of the figures in my work have their eyes closed. For me, this is a way of expressing presence, inwardness, and the quiet process of reconnecting with what lies beneath the surface.
I’m also deeply inspired by children, who to me represent something pure and unfiltered, a reminder of who we were before life, fear, and expectations shaped us away from our essence.
Blue is a strong presence in my work. It came intuitively, but over time I came to understand it as a color of depth, calm, mystery, and emotion, deeply connected to both the sea and my life in Curaçao.
Through my work, I hope to create something that feels honest and resonates quietly, offering a moment of reflection and connection.
